Last night I came across the scripture of 2 Corinthians 12:7-10. Michael and I read this together last night....
It occurred to me that everyone has a thorn of some sort. At some time in your life you have a thorn. According to this scripture God allows us to have it so that we will not self-boast. Would we not say.. "I did.. or look at what I did..?" Absolutely we would! The way I read it... God allowed Paul's thorn because he had a vision of greatness, to bring him down from it, and to make him not take credit for it, he received in his flesh a thorn. Michael said last night "but it was a physical thorn..." I said maybe, maybe not. Could he have had a mental plaguing? A thought he could not quite get out of his head? A nagging stress? A boil? A headache? Regardless of what it was I wish I knew. It would make things so clearer.
I know of a thorn. It is a nasty one, life long, never-ceasing, dismal and strong. It is aggravated by Satan the master crafter of Obstacles to Grace. He is very crafty in planting things in your life just when you are at your weakest. Why? To keep us from God's grace. Good news for us, God allows this to be addressed too! Paul said, God told him, "My grace is all you need, because my power is perfected in weakness."
Not only will God allow us nothing that we cannot handle by his grace, His power will rest on us (according to Paul) when we are at our weakest and call out his name. So, If you are experiencing a thorn today.. Call out his name and (according to Paul) his power will rest on you!
